As you can see in this picture, this engine is
powered by steam, it creates pressure and then
blasts it out into the tube which pushes the rod to
make the big wheel move.You may not see it on the
picture but there is a little U at the start of the rod
which is smooth so it has the lowest amount of friction
it can and that the fat part slides to create speed.

Thanks Maycon. I agree, friction would be minimised here to put all the energy into the running of the machine.
