The origin of my name!

Story about my birth

When I was born, my name 'Niroj' was given by my dad. My name came from something called 'Numerology'. Numerology is a 'lucky' number system. A name was made based on the time and date a baby is born on. I was born on the 12th April 2001 at 6:00am, in the morning from Greenlane's National Women's Hospital. My big sister says my birth was 'exciting' as she really wanted me to come out from day 1! On 31st April 2001, I had my special naming ceremony (called a 'Pooja') that happened in a temple where priests do special chanting called 'mantras'. A mantra is when you chant or basically pray to the Hindu gods in a language called 'Sanskrit' (The divine language of the gods).

The priest whispered my name in my ear to show the remembrance of the baby's name, and so that my mind would respond to it. My sister then later took my tiny hands and traced the first letter of the Tamil alphabet (அ -Ahna) into the rice on a silver plate that had been blessed by the deity. This is done so that the baby is able to receive divine knowledge and is able to be educated well. Education is highly regarded in my culture, that we have a goddess that we pray to that helps us to give the meanings of education. This goddesses name is ‘Saraswati'.
My name is Niroj Sivarajah. It is a very unique, short, and stylish name with a beautiful meaning to it.

Niroj means 'a beautiful lotus' and my last name 'Sivarajah' is named after the supreme god of Hindu religion 'Shiva'.

In English/Tamil:

  • English:'Niroj'-Tamil:'நிரோஜ் '
  • English:'Sivarajah'-Tamil'சிவராஜா'

Lily's name

My name is Lily chosen by my family and some relatives and they liked it because it is named after the flower Lily.
My English name is Lily Lan Tang. (the Tang is actually pronounced as 'tong' with a stretched out 'g')
My Chinese name is 汤 澜. (汤 as Tang) and (澜 as my middle name 'Lan') My name means ocean waves and freedom within the waves.
In China your last name comes first and your first name comes after it.
For me, because I was born in NZ, my parents wanted me to have an English/NZ name so they called me Lily, and made my Chinese name my middle name.

Lily :)

my name ( Lauren )

My name was chosen randomly because it sounded nice. It means a Laurel tree. The leaves of a Laurel tree were used as wreaths for Roman emporers. My middle name, Siena, was chosen because it was the Italian town my parents got married in.

MY KOREAN NAME MEANING (Late Entry 0.o)

My Korean name is Young Seok, or 영석 in Korean. It means an intelligent (Seok) and worthy person (Young). First of all, Korean families usually share one word in the same generation. For example, my cousin's name is Young Min (영민) and Young Jin (영진), whereas my name is Young Seok (영석). As you can see, my generation's shared word is Young. The rest of my name is up to my parents to find a name for me in which they hope I will become. If you think about it, English and Korean naming systems ate the same. For example, my family picked my name Eugene means well born or noble. In Korea, my family also picked my name Young Seok because it means an intelligent and/or worthy person. Parents pick names in which they want their child to become when older.

My Name is Alexander

My name (Alexander) was chosen because my great-grandfather (from my fathers family) was named Alexander. My middle name (James) was chosen because my grandfather (from my mothers side) was called James. Neither of these names have a particular meaning they are just the names of important people in my family. My last name is Campbell and that is my family name.
When I was born I wasn't part of any special rituals (naming ceremonies etc.)

My name is Ami

My name "Ami" was chosen by my family. To tell the truth the doctor told my family "I think this name is the best for your baby". There was two options, and one of them was "Ami". My mum, sister and my brother, thought "Ami" was best, and my dad and my grandma thought the other name was good. 3 and 2, "Ami" won! So they decided on "Ami".

My name means "It spreads around the world".
