Martin Luther King By Lucy:
Martin Luther King was an African-American clergyman (a male priest or minister of a Christian church) and an activist. (someone who believes strongly about something and wants to teach other people about it.)
But what he was best known for was his association with the Civil rights movement for both black and white. But he was most famous for his public speeches.
Martin lived in Atlanta, Georgia. (USA)
And was born January 15 1929 but sadly he was shot on April 4 1968 at the age of just 39.
In that short time he won a Nobel Peace prize, fought for equal rights and poverty by ending the Vietnam war. When he started to speak out about ending the war he put his life in serious danger. All he wanted was for everyone to be in peace. He risked his own life for others to live a safe healthy happy life.

But why did Martin do this? Well racism was a very big problem back then and he wanted to make a difference. He wanted blacks and whites to live together peacefully in a community. He was fighting for everyone's rights.
He was an exceptional public speaker and raised awareness of any quality for black people at public peaceful demonstrations.
For Martin, him living wasn't important. It was discrimination. He lead change and helped discrimination against black people and. Martin Luther King is an amazing man and definitely made a difference to the world. He risked his own life for others. This shows that it only takes one person to make a difference. 'He had a dream.'

Poppy's Person Post
Norman Borlaug
Norman Borlaug is known as 'The father of green revolution' and 'The man who saved a billion lives'. Norman is known as this because he helped India, Pakistan, Mexico, Africa and China when their wheat crops got stem-rust causing them to die from lack of nutrition. He did this by cross breeding the Japanese Dwarf Wheat with a variety of other wheat types making the Semi Dwarf Wheat. The Semi Dwarf Wheat is a high yielding disease resistant wheat; that is why he used it. Norman was born in a small farm in Iowa, America in 1914 and died in 2009 from blood cancer. He was inspired by his wrestling coach and former boss (now wife) because they told him to 'work hard or go away' as well as the milk raid in Mexico. He also wanted world peace and believed 'you can't build world peace on empty stomachs'! Norman over his time won many prizes including the Nobal Peace Prize and Padma Vishbuan.

Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler was a german Führer who provoked World War II. He was born on the 20 April 1889 and commited suicide on the 30 April 1945 after he knew the war was lost.
When Hitler was three, the family moved to Passau, Germany. There he acquired the distinctive Austrian figure, which marked his speech all of his life. In 1894 the family relocated to Leonding and in June 1895, Hitler's family retired to Hafeld where they farmed and kept bees.
Hitler made a difference by creating WWII and provoking german citizens that jews were no better than them. He then lead the way at war, widening german land further and further. One of the reasons why Adolf Hitler started the holocaust was because all the jews were better than him at everything he loved. He was enraged when he failed at something because of a jew. That powered his hate, and Kristallnacht was the outcome.
In a way, I think Adolf Hitler was one of the greatest leaders of all time.

Louis Braille the inventor of Braille a way to read with the hands.
Louis Braille was the creator of Braille, a way of reading quickly and effectively for the blind and visually impaired. Louis was born on January the 4th 1809 in france and died at the age of 43 of tuberculosis. He was educated at Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles, Royal Institution for Blind Youth. The reason he felt inspired to invent Braille for the blind is that it was clumsy and slow to read other books for the blind and were very expensive to manufacture but Braille solved this. This would also mean that the blind would have a better chance at education, which is a human right and gives more opportunities to them. If it wasn't for Louis Braille and his invention of the Braille alaphabet blind people these days wouldn't be as knowledgeable as they are today.

David Lange
David Lange was a New Zealander who has lead change.
David became Prime Minister at the age of 42. During this time he forced a ban on nuclear ships coming in to New Zealand waters. A famous quote of his to another party, is 'hold your breath just for a moment. I can smell the uranium on it as you lean toward me!’
David Lange died 13 August 2005 of renial failure, a kidney problem.
David Lange's change to New Zealand was definitely the ban on nuclear ships coming in to New Zealand waters. He fought for this case for a while, and finally succeeded although causing a few enemies in the political world on the way. To fight for this cause he debated in 1985 Oxford Union. David Lange won this debate and just like that- a ban!
David was born in Otahuhu. He suffered all his life from obesity and sicknesses caused by it. At 1982 he weighed 165 kgs and had to get his stomach stapled in order to lose some of his weight.

Malachy's homework assignment.
I am doing they short report on Galileo Galilei. He was born 15 February 1564 and died in 8 January 1642 aged 77. He lived in Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Italy. You may thinking how is Galileo a leader. Well he as you know he has a major role in creating science. He lead through that and also withstood being sentenced to stay at home by religious court which ruled at the time. He was inspired first by his father; he made Hume go to medical school. Then got interested by a swinging chandelier while studying. Later that evening he purchased 2 of the same pendulums and found out that both of (when he swung 1 with a small hit and the other with a big hit) the pendulums went at the same rate (using a proper experiment for one of the first times). He after that he wrote books to share science he knew about and created many sciences. Thank you for reading.
