David became Prime Minister at the age of 42. During this time he forced a ban on nuclear ships coming in to New Zealand waters. A famous quote of his to another party, is 'hold your breath just for a moment. I can smell the uranium on it as you lean toward me!’
David Lange died 13 August 2005 of renial failure, a kidney problem.
David Lange's change to New Zealand was definitely the ban on nuclear ships coming in to New Zealand waters. He fought for this case for a while, and finally succeeded although causing a few enemies in the political world on the way. To fight for this cause he debated in 1985 Oxford Union. David Lange won this debate and just like that- a ban!
David was born in Otahuhu. He suffered all his life from obesity and sicknesses caused by it. At 1982 he weighed 165 kgs and had to get his stomach stapled in order to lose some of his weight.
