How a wheel is attached to a vehicle EUGINIOUS

In this photo of an old firetruck, the wheel is attached on the chassis by the axle. But this one for instance has more than one axle on the wheel - that is because some of the axles are used for steering. Most cars nowadays have the axle covered due to safety precautions but this firetruck was a perfect example of the axle. Anyway most wheels are secured onto the axle by bolts and screws. Oil can be added to lessen the friction between the axle and wheel.

  1. Yes, indeed Eugene - what else is often included to help the wheel go round more smoothly, anyone remember??
